Projet Abstract
The principal aim of the project is the use of photography for the knowledge, the conservation and the exploitation of the cultural heritage, within the alpine space identity and the regional diversities, by exchanging information, to allow the preservation of the historical memory and the development of a sustainable tourism.
The best way to realize this goal is to carry out visual anthropology studies and activities, about the cultural landscape and traditions, even in terms of material and immaterial cultural heritage, including every aspect of the inhabitants daily life, such as the traditional arts and crafts of the alpine regions involved in the project.
Photography will be a precious instrument to realize a census of the various documents of this common heritage, through the research and of the historical images and the promotion of new items of the actual situation and their cataloguing, with the creation of a data subset connected with digital images and the publication of a web site open to various users, from administrations to private structures and citizens interested in finding different information on the landscape and the culture of the Alpine Space.
Project Data
BACKGROUND OF PROJECT : MOTIVE FOR PROJECT, OBJECTIVES.
Part 1
From its origins photography always proved to be an important instrument of reality documentation and interpretation, even in the territorial area here considered. The photographic campaigns on alpine landscape were always associated with cultural operations concerning an anthropological point of view. An example for all the campaigns led by Paul Scheuermeier for his Atlas of the rural life that punctually photographs the traditions and every day life of the alpine area inhabitants. Even recently, photography continued to carry out his cognitive function with the new campaigns.
In the Spatial Planning perspective, according to ESPD and with the Alpine Convention, the project aims to use photography as an instrument to strengthen the cultural identity through the reconsideration of the specific quality of the territory and its inhabitants in their diversity. The photography is an instrument to analyse the cultural and spatial development of the area through the direct involvement of the local population using photographic campaigns. The idea is both to find a good solution through the development of a common cataloguing project and a common way to use databases for the multilingual iconographic and alphanumeric research.
Part 2
The project results will be applied in the regions involved and will be available for all European mountain and rural regions. It will allow the promotion of the large amount of knowledge of the many already existing images stored by various institutions and the organisation of travelling exhibitions in the cities of the Alpine area. Alpine identity will be promoted by best practices and positives experiences, using the new technologies, such as the web, by creating a portal of photography.
